John received the Prime Minister’s Centenary Medal in 2003 for “Services to Conservation and the Environment of QLD”. His planning experience began in 1974, and includes eleven years as the City Planner of Ipswich City Council and ten years as the Chairman of Brannock Humphreys.
In February 1998, John formed the practice of Brannock & Associates Planning and Environment Consultants. John is inaugural Adjuncts Professor in town planning at the University of QLD, and is presently the Chair of the QLD Heritage Council. He holds a Bachelor of Surveying, Master of Urban and Regional Planning and a Master of Science in Environmental Management.
John is Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia and Fellow of the Environment Institute of Australia. John’s town planning practice is involved with master planning of new communities and large scale development projects, sensitive environment and heritage projects and advice to both government and the private sectors.

Victor Feros is a graduate of University of QLD in Geography, History and Urban and Regional Planning, and the US Bicentennial Fellow 1976. Principal of Victor G Feros Town Planning Consultants, QLD’s longest-established specialist Planning practice, with offices in Brisbane (since 1976), Cairns (since 1988) and the Gold Coast. 
Victor Feros has consulted to more than 50 Local Governments throughout QLD and the Northern Territory and to numerous QLD and Australian Government agencies, and has consulted widely in New South Wales, New Zealand, South East Asia and the Pacific

Chris Freeman was born and educated in QLD and remains passionate about the wellbeing and development of this State. He has held national roles and worked in all major States of Australia during which time he had some 15 years in executive and general management.
For the past 8 years, he has held senior roles in the Property Development industry including a term as Executive Director of the Sunland Group Limited and is currently Chief Executive for QLD of the Mirvac Group.
 
He is on the Group Executive Committee and is a Director of the Mirvac companies in QLD. In the past 6 years he has directed the growth of Mirvac in QLD with a range of flagship projects where Mirvac now has property developments with a total value that exceeds 2 billion dollars. His professional and business background includes more than 20 years experience in the Finance sector including Business, Agri-Business, Corporate and a high-level focus upon property development. He is professionally qualified and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of QLD and has completed Advanced Management Development Programs at the University of Hawaii and the International Program at INSEAD in Paris.
 
Chris is the Past-President of the QLD branch of the Urban Development Institute of Australia. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Australian Institute of Banking and Finance and the Development Institute of Australia and appointed by the University of QLD as Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Engineering, Physical Sciences and Architecture and the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. He has strong interest in the arts and sport and is the Past Deputy Chairman of Brisbane Festival Limited and Chapter Chair for the Australian Business Arts Foundation (AbaF).

Jeff Humphreys is a principal of Humphreys Reynolds Perkins Planning Consultants, an independent private practice employing about twenty town planners. His career has included preparing statutory planning documents and other strategic studies for government, as well as planning input to a wide range of development projects.
His professional work has included planning centres, urban design, tourism planning and planning for city image. Jeff is one of the early graduates from the UQ Bachelor of Regional and Town Planning.

Michael Kerry is the Regional Director – Queensland with Parsons Brinckerhoff and a Board member of the Urban Land Development Authority (ULDA) and Australian Green Infrastructure Council (AGIC).
Previously he was an executive with Babcock & Brown, a Director with the Springfield Land Corporation, an Urban Management Adviser and the Executive Director, Office of Urban Management, for the Queensland Government. Michael was responsible for establishing the Office in May 2004 and preparing a Regional Plan and Infrastructure Plan and Program for South East Queensland. From 1992-2004 he was Divisional Manager, Urban Management, with the Brisbane City Council and was a Director of the South Bank Corporation and Brisbane City Enterprises Pty Ltd.

 

Michael has extensive experience in city and regional planning, major projects and urban development. Before joining Brisbane City Council in 1992, he was Chief Planner for the West Australian Government and Chief Executive Officer of the Joondalup Development Corporation in Perth; Planning Manager for Metropolitan Adelaide in South Australia; Director of Planning in the Northern Territory and Senior Urban Planner with the Albury-Wodonga Development Corporation and National Capital Development Commission.

 

International experience includes 3 years in the United Kingdom in environmental planning and urban renewal, City of Liverpool, local government capacity building in South Africa and strategic planning for Riyahd, capital of Saudi Arabia. Michael holds tertiary qualifications in Geography, Economics, and Civic Design and is a Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is

President of the Planning Institute Australia (PIA) Queensland Division and an Adjunct Professor, University of Queensland.

Dr Arnold Dekker is part of the Remote Sensing research stream which is part of the Environmental Sensing, Prediction and Reporting research theme.
Arnold's current research focuses on developing applications of MODIS and MERIS data for coastal waters detection monitoring and modelling, and on further enhancement of shallow water algorithms to detect and map seagrasses, macro-algae and coral reefs.
 
In 1999 Dr Dekker came to Australia to join CSIRO. Arnold’s research expertise is in the area of developing applications of remote sensing from aircraft and from satellites to provide relevant environmental information on inland and coastal water ecosystems, including reservoirs, lakes, rivers, tidal lagoons, seagrasses, macro-algae, and coral reefs, In order to achieve the above goals he has developed expertise in organisation and definition of airborne and satellite remote sensing projects; geophysics; aquatic ecology; water quality management; bio-optical modelling; atmosphere correction and inland and coastal water remote sensing algorithms.

Rod’s research is related to the ecology and conservation of native vegetation. He tries to disseminate his findings not only by publishing but also through conservation planning, policy and practice. He was awarded the 2005 Sherman Eureka Prize for his research that contributed to regulations that phase out broadscale land clearing in Queensland.

Mr Koh is the Director of the Environment Dept with the Asian Productivity Organisation (APO), an intergovernmental organisation based in Tokyo. Previously an independent consultant on environmental planning, through the APO Mr Koh has implemented 30 successful Green Productivity demonstrations in various industrial areas, and instigated natural farming across Asia. Green Productivity demonstration projects were also employed in agriculture, communities and service sectors, and introduced into villages in Vietnam originating with 3 in 2000 to 100 villages in 2005.

Peter Oliver leads development and delivery of education and training programs for the International WaterCentre (www.watercentre.org), in particular the Master of Integrated Water Management.
He was previously a Principal Natural Resource Officer (Science) with Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Water. His work there involved research on collaborative natural resource management.

Dr Oliver has academic qualifications in ecology, land use management, education and social science and over twenty years experience in citizen participation and natural resource management education and extension, particularly in the areas of water and catchment management.

Dr Tim Smith is a senior research scientist with the Resource Futures Program of CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems.
Prior to his appointment with CSIRO in 2003, Tim led the social science research and education portfolios of two national research centres (Citizen Science Theme Leader for the Coastal CRC, and Education and Training Program Leader for the Catchment Hydrology CRC).
 
In addition to several academic appointments (e.g. UNSW and Griffith University), Tim has worked in local government (Waterways Manager for Manly Council), state government (project manager for the stressed rivers assessment as part of the NSW Water Reforms, NSW DLWC), and private industry (environmental scientist for Patterson Britton & Partners, and as founding partner of Total Stormwater Solutions). Tim has led numerous projects relating to natural resource management and has authored or co-authored over 50 publications in this area, including the book “Australian Estuaries: a Framework for Management” released in 2001. Tim has given keynote addresses or invited seminars in Australia, Italy, New Zealand, Fiji and the United States.
 
Tim is currently editing a special issue of the international journal Coastal Management, on the outcomes of the 2nd Coastal Zone Asia Pacific conference, which he co-chaired in September 2003. Tim’s key areas of research expertise relate to coastal management, institutionalised analysis, community participation, natural resource governance, and social learning.
